The majority of candlesticks look incomplete without a candle. I wanted to create a stand that would present a complete object without relying on a candle, and I aimed to make the candlestick serve a greater purpose beyond holding a candle. In my search for inspiration, I reflected on a problem that affects many people today - obesity. Energy-dense, high-fat foods like donuts are a leading cause of this epidemic. I thought the shape of a donut could serve as a symbol of this issue, and thus, I designed a candlestick in the shape of a donut. I collaborated with a Danish potter to create a model and produced 300 porcelain donut candlesticks. I then incorporated branding and package design to create the — donut, which comes in different flavors with 0% fat, 0% carbohydrates, and 0% sugar. Not only can you enjoy this candlestick without gaining weight, but also for every purchase, 20% of my profits go towards a Danish organization that helps children struggling with obesity.
