SAVING MANKIND FROM OBESITY, DONUT by DONUT
There is a story embedded in every product, and this one started when I noticed a common pattern in candleholders - they all looked amputated when standing without a candle. Therefore, I decided to solve this issue by creating one that didn’t rely on a candle in order to be seen as a whole object. Furthermore, I wanted to design a candleholder that served a greater purpose than just holding a candle.
THE PURPOSE OF STANDING OUT
In my search for a form, I was looking at common issues that people could relate to - like obesity. Obesity is a widespread threat to the general health and the main cause for this epidemic is high-fat energy-dense food, like donuts.
The donut shape is the perfect form, and could be a great symbol for obesity. I shaped and designed the—donut and got a local Danish potter to make a model and afterwards baked 300 donuts. Then I sprinkled it with some branding, packing design and …voila.
the — donut is a porcelain candleholder that comes with a strategy to save mankind from obesity, donut by donut. It comes in the most delicious flavours and with 0% fat, 0% carbs and 0% sugar you can easily enjoy it without gaining any weight. With each sold donut a donation of 20% of my profit goes to a Danish organization, which deals with children who are overweight and obese.
